Boro Kuthi was built by Dutch traders in the eighteenth century, beside the Padma. It served as a silk factory building, a reminder that the trade in Rajshahi silk drew European merchants here long before the modern city.
In 1953 the building was handed over to the newly founded University of Rajshahi and used as its administrative building.
