Abul Hasnat Mohammad Kamaruzzaman was born in Rajshahi in 1926.
He was one of the key organisers of the Liberation War and served as Minister of Home Affairs, Relief and Rehabilitation in the provisional government formed in 1971.
He was killed inside Dhaka Central Jail on 3 November 1975, along with three other national leaders, in what is remembered in Bangladesh as Jail Killing Day.
